Bolivia 2013 Sharing Time

Want to HEAR about Bolivia 2013 in person? We would LOVE to share with you the incredible ways God has worked on this trip...to recount the lives that were touched (including our own!), to tell stories of God's faithfulness, and to share how HE has shown Himself strong through this trip.

We will be sharing--in person--at Calvary Church tomorrow night. We will have pictures, a short video, stories, probably a skit we performed in in Bolivia, and powerful, life-changing memories of God's mighty hand working among us. It would be OUR PLEASURE if YOU would join us--in remembering what He has done and celebrating together the GREATNESS of our eternal King.

We will be sharing at:

Calvary Church, Room 200
August 18, approx. 6:00-7:30pm
5801 Pineville Matthews Rd
Charlotte, NC, 28226

We hope we will see you tomorrow!!!!!

Isaiah 26:3

Today was literally WONDERful. Our entire English Village group was able to go to a park and view the beautiful, colorful creation our AMAZING God has allowed us to enjoy! I will write more about that later, but first I want to share about last week, when we first arrived.

Last Saturday, we had the opportunity to ride a tiny airplane over Bolivia. I contemplated whether or not I wanted to fly, and after taking a few moments to consider, I decided that I wanted to go. I had ridden on a plane before, but never in a small six seater, and I knew that this experience would be too unique to pass up.

Once I arrived to the SamAir hangar, I was ready to fly, but I had to wait…and wait… and wait. After about an hour later (but maybe less), it was my group’s turn to fly. I could have changed my mind during that waiting period, but my mind was still set on going, so I got into the plane. My excitement started to increase as we began to take off, with that excitement came a little bit of nervousness. Soon enough I was able to enjoy the city below and all the hills and trees. I took pictures and thought about how great and awesome God is.

Later during the flight we came to the foothills of the Andes. I don’t know why, but it was not until then when I became very fearful. I started to think irrational thoughts like: “What if we crash? These rocks will hurt more here than if we crashed back there.” (Stupid, right? LOL) I started to sweat a lot and pray a lot. The plane shook a few times—and each time it shook my faith in the pilot’s ability, even though he is an expert. I wanted to get off. A-SAP! As I was sitting there battling this anxiety, I thought of how so many times when God calls me to certain things I respond in obedience and excitement and enjoy the ride for a little while—but as soon as I see mountains and experience obstacles or difficulties that try to shake me—I respond in fear and want to stop.

I did not know the pilot who was flying me, Ryan, Nick, Sean in little plane…I only knew his name. But I know God personally and I know His character. So if I know Him, why do I fear? I need to trust in Him with everything—trusting that no matter what may happen He knows what is best and wants what is best!

I encourage you to read Deuteronomy 31:1-8. When it was no longer Moses’ time to lead Israel, he said to Joshua in verse 8, “It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” Many times the Lord calls His people to do great things that naturally would seem intimidating or fearful—but these are just opportunities to lean on Him and trust in Him! It’s much much much less about what we can do and more about what HE can do. I encourage you to continue to acknowledge God as the expert pilot of your life and to remember that He is in complete control. It’s not about you, which is something God has been reminding me of almost everyday. He created mountains, and He can move them. He can do whatever He wants, in fact. He created us… We are vessels—it’s His power that is really working. Are you willing to pursue your calling to serve regardless of what you may have to sacrifice and the obstacles you may face? If you really evaluated, do you really trust Him? (All that was typed in this paragraph I am speaking to myself.) I believe, but help my unbelief, Lord! “You keep Him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because He trusts in You.”

The Moment of Impact

It is so interesting how in one moment everything can change. Whether good or bad, in that moment you know your life will never be the same. Recently, we have been helping students give their testimonies in English. What a joy it is to help them express God's love for them. For everyone who becomes a follower of Christ there is that one moment when your life would never be the same. The moment you made the biggest decision of your life. It was not what your major was going to be or what college you wanted to go to. It was the decision of where you would spend eternity. In that moment your life for eternity was changed. In that precise moment, God decided to impact your life in a way you would never forget. However, God never stops impacting us. From the testimonies of my students, I see so many ways that God has impacted their lives. Two of my three students have lost a child. One of them told me that her child is "dancing in heaven with The Lord" and that "we (God's children) will be dancing with her son someday. Through all three of their lives God is continuing to work. A lot of students here have a passion for The Lord. They desire to go out to the world and impact other people's lives. But, for now they are impacting me. The way they encourage me to follow after God and be courageous for Him is so moving to me. We laugh, we cry, we get confused together. But through it all we have left a mark that will change our lives forever.
Most of the time you don't know when you impact someone's life. Every now and then through we get a glimpse into the working if God's plan through us. I wondered why all the doors seem to burst open for me when I was thinking about going on this trip. One thing after another just showed God's provision for me. But why Bolivia and why now. I think God had a unique purpose for each one of the team members going on the trip. For me my answer came tonight. Of course my acting skills have been really beneficial this week. But that is not the whole answer. I have been sick the past few days and haven't been able to talk much. Once muted by this sudden sickness I saw the caring people had for me. They wondered were the goofy smiles were. And that is just it. I am here to encourage these people and be servant to them. My student tonight shared with me that her friend (another student) and her have both shared tears over their great losses in their life. This week however they were able to see a different side of one another. They were able to laugh together for really the first time. I would never have known since she is the one who always makes the best jokes in our group. (And she does it in English as well.) Moments of impact are everywhere. All he time people impact each other whether good or bad. Tonight we were challenged to go out and impact the world for good. As part of God's loving family, make the choice to stand with us and impact the world.

¡La Vida Loquísima!

My room was a WRECK the day I started to pack for Bolivia,
which was the same day I had to completely move out of
my apartment--so glad that's over with! jajaja
WOW! I can’t believe it’s already been exactly one week since I was in my last apartment wishing I were on the plane to Bolivia rather than packing up my room. As soon as I hopped on I-77  to Sarah’s house (hauling about a third of my possessions in my car) , I put all of the madness that had taken place throughout the week behind me. I absolutely cannot think of a day as crazy as July 25/26, 2013, but as soon as Sarah and I walked into the airport, all I could do was grin from ear to ear and speak with excitement and laughter, even though I was totally sleep deprived from the all nighter I pulled on Thursday. The reality of actually going to Bolivia felt stronger and stronger as I walked through Charlotte Douglas security, ate Chinese during the layover in Miami, and waited in line for visas in Santa Cruz!
I essentially paid $5.00 for all of this because
Tamara and I split our meal in half. Really good deal
 for lunch in an AIRPORT!

Once I received my luggage in Bolivia, I wasn’t too surprised to see that it was taped up with a plastic bag over it….It was just the beginning to a crazy trip! It’s been great!!! Whether it’s through sharing testimonies, through laughing about confusion of words, or through being taught Spanish phrases and songs, there is definitely unity and lots of bonding between the team and the students, which is one thing we prayed for. Praise God! This is my third attempt to blog and finally I am able to actually post something. This was kind of short and pathetic, I will write more hopefully sooner than later--there is SO much more to share!! Overall, I love Bolivia and the family of God!
The clouds are always my favorite part of flying (:
The Arrival!

No wonder I couldn't find my luggage at first!
